“Our
deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest
fear is that we are
powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness,
that most
frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant,
gorgeous,
talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?”
- Nelson Mandela
We all have many gifts. As
yet they may not be completely revealed. Some encouragement,
a guiding hand and a receptive ear is all students need
to feel the inner urge to allow creativity to flow and to
trust that art making is about the process of letting go.
Julie instructs all ages, starting from 7 to infinity. She
teaches at her studio in Berkeley, the College of Marin,
and the Department of Recreation in Burlingame. Welcoming
all levels, Julie encourages rank beginners as well as more
seasoned artists to join both drawing and painting classes.
Julie teaches students watercolor, water-based oils, and
cartooning. Her primary
art medium is transparent watercolor, with an emphasis on
both the transparent and semi-opaque blending of colors
that create the delicate and bold qualities of watercolor.
She also paints with water-based oils to create rich textures,
and illustrates cartoons and caricatures for special occasions.
Watercolor is a very forgiving medium, especially when you
understand how to use colors to your advantage. Learn how
to mix and paint with colors so that they enhance each other
in your paintings. Develop knowledge about the color wheel,
complimentary colors, split compliments, triad and semi-neutral
colors and much more. Build confidence to make radiant,
decisive color statements in your artwork.
